About
Iām Karyn and I am a production artist located in Central Oregon and currently work for Silipint. I have been in this position for almost four years, after initially working as a screen printer. This gave me a great advantage in terms of knowing what my fellow printers struggled with most when I moved into the production artist role. Surprisingly, printing artwork on a cylindrical cone can be pretty complicated.
This particular role is focused on providing digital mockups of our products to customers - this includes reworking their art, making sure it is up to standards, and even rebuilding it. It has broadened my skills with digital tools like Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop. Other parts include: creating templates for new products, creating 3D objects in Illustrator to warp art to, and obtaining A LOT of cool cup samples.
My education has been focused mainly on the traditional side of art, with an emphasis on studio art. I favor watercolor as my main medium as well as the use of bright colors and details. While I have yet to find a perfect way to marry the transparency of watercolor and the opaque saturation needed for printing on silicone, being an artist has greatly helped me in my current position. It allows me to be creative and to think outside of the box to produce a mockup I think clients will like, when I have the freedom to do so.
